Victory is sweet !!!!

We defeated the Red Hot Chili Peppers 4 to 1. What a victory ! Congratulations to our goalies, our defense and our strikers.

Here is a short video to remember what made our victory possible. It was our team speed, our team stamina, our team technique. But most of all it was the team work. Let's keep that team work going into the next game.

Parents Meeting

Please use the comments section of this posting only to discuss possible date/times for the Parents Meetings this week. We have our first game coming up on Sunday at Noon against G9-II. Here are some items that I would like to discuss with you:

Practice schedule. I would like to have an hour before the game and at least one additional evening. Also, given the game on Sunday maybe we can have a get-to-know the kids on Saturday morning.

Electing a parent as a team leader - responsible for organizational issues and as a contact point. Everybody has a busy schedule, so we all appreciate the effort of anyone who can volunteer a little time for that.

Rules of the practice: you have to announce if you are unable to attend, you have to bring a bottle of water for your kid, etc.

Rules of the game: no parents allowed on the field, referee is always right, clothing and jewelry.

Open agenda items.

Short Biography

My name is Ion Mateescu and I will be your kids co-coach this season with Mark Berti.

I have been in this country for 17 years. I played soccer in high school and college for about 7 years in an organized division and ever since then in a less organized fashion. I love this game. In the country I am coming from soccer had more fanatics than any religion.

My coaching experience is limited to training for three months in the West Point Military Academy 6 and 7 years old division. I am not a military man, I was just living in that community three years ago when I volunteered.

I live on the UES. I have worked in the past in academia for Cornell University and Columbia University as a Research Associate until 2000, and on Wall Street as a trader for a hedge fund until the end of 2003. I am now working as a an Engineer for a medical equipment company in Westchester.

I have an 8 1/2 years old daughter who will be playing for the team. Her name is Daria.

My objective in training in the League this season is not to have a team of champions, although that would be nice. My objective is to develop a love for the game in our players, to develop their creativity, to help them increase their physical awareness and intuition, to make them trust their physical abilities.

Welcome players and parents to West Side Soccer League Weblog for the G9 division , Team LL. This blog is not authorized or endorsed by the West Side Soccer League. It is a forum for the parents of Team LL, organized by two of the players parents. They also happen to be coaching the team this season. West Side Soccer League does not endorse or control its content.

I tried to balance privacy and ease, but I understand that some parents will want more of one or more of the other. Right now, this blog is not hidden, meaning a casual blog reader will not find it listed on Blogger directory. One has to know the address to be able to browse it. I left the comment section open, but we can close it for everyone except authorized users if you feel uneasy about it. There will be two authorized posters, the coaches. Occasionally, if a comment is of general importance, it will be hoisted from comments and placed in the posting area by one of the authorized users.

Blogger allows posting of pictures hosted on Picassa as well as streaming video. You can post a link in the comments area to a private or public album on Picassa if you have pictures from the practice or the game and would like to share them with other parents. If you have a video of a game or practice email me and I will help you post it.

This will be the primary vehicle for us the coaches to post announcements, schedules changes, game notes and so on. I hope it will also become one for the parents to help organize, to get together, to exchange opinions on the game or on any other topic.

Check this place for the first two real posts, two short profiles of Marc and Ion, the coaches.
